Katy Perry has revealed that she is the new face of fashion brand Moschino after sharing one of the ’90s-inspired images from the campaign on her Instagram account.
The 30-year-old pop star dons a sexy gold lamé brallete, a black pencil skirt and gold chains as she poses seductively with her hand on her hip in the ad she shared with her 21.6 million Instagram followers on Wednesday.
Within an hour of being shared, the photo had already received more than 175,000 likes.
In the image, Katy’s wears the same tousled Kris Jenner-inspired wig that she debuted on April Fool’s Day and also wore on the red carpet at this year’s Met Gala, for which she also donned a specially-designed Moschino frock.
The new campaign also sees her with a patchwork denim jacket featuring gold pipping tossed over her shoulders, while the bling theme continues with the variety of gold chains draped around her neck and waist.
More than 3,000 people commented on the image, with some deeming the singer unrecognizable with her short hair.
‘Who the hell is that in the ad?’ David Navarrete wrote, while others debated whether or not it was a wig.
‘I know it’s a wig. But it suits her better than the long hair,’ one commenter said of her short hairdo.
Katy hinted on Twitter today the she had a surprise for her fans, writing: ‘Can’t wait to show you one of my FAVORITE things EVER at the top of the hour… Stay [sic].’
Although it’s not surprising that Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott named Katy the new face of his brand. The two are close friends, and Katy has a history of wearing his designs.
And it’s clear that she is a fan of the outfit she is modeling in the new ad.
In April, Katy wore the gold quilted bra and patchwork denim dungarees, which match the jacket featured in the ad, to the Moschino party at the Coachella Music Festival. But instead of gold chains, she donned massive hoop earrings.
Last month, Katy flaunted her cleavage on the Met Ball red carpet in a bold Moshino gown that featured graffiti print on its black fabric, topping off the ensemble with matching gloves and a Moschino spray paint can for a handbag.
The pair have teamed up for many important moments in their lives.
While Jeremy designed Katy’s looks for her Super Bowl halftime show, the singer strutted down the runway for the debut of his fall 2014 collection, his first one for the Italian fashion house.
Jeremy told Elle that the two met in 2008 when he was attending an event in Los Angeles with Lindsay Lohan. According to the designer, Katy walked right up to him and introduced herself and ‘and she said: “Hi, I’m a singer and you’re my favorite designer. One day, I hope to wear your things onstage. My name is Katy Perry.”‘
It has already been a big week for Katy.
Yesterday, her Dark Horse video became the third video ever, and the first by a female singer, to reach one billion views.
‘Guys. Wut. Dark Horse has reached 1 BILLION views?! I seriously [love] ur balls & ur fingers for dem clicks [sic],’ she tweeted in response to the news.
