COME AND JOIN ONE OF THE UK’S LEADING CHILDREN’S THEATRE COMPANIES!
looking for TWO FANTASTIC performers to star in our brand new musical
Christmas show, LILY & THE LITTLE SNOW BEAR.
This is a great opportunity for you to work with our amazing creative team to produce a beautiful, original piece of children’s theatre. We’re keen to work with multi-talented actors,
who can sing, dance, and act! But most of all, you need to genuinely LOVE
working with children.
The creative team have over 20 years professional
experience in creating magical, memorable shows for children and their
grown-ups. So, you’re in safe hands. But, we only want to work with actors
who can bring lots experience, bags of enthusiasm and more ideas than one
human brain could ever possibly need! This will be a scripted show, working
alongside our artistic director, musical director and choreographer, but you
will have a HUGE opportunity to contribute your creative ideas. We’re so
EXCITING!
Here are a few of the practical bits you need to know: YOU MUST BE
A DRIVER: Please be aware that you MUST have a full, clean driving licence
due to the nature of this job and location of our company base. Sadly, we
are unable to consider non-drivers. Sorry, need to say that again – we can’t
anybody without a full, clean driving license.
THE CONTRACT: Rehearsals start next Thursday 9th Nov until Thursday 23rd Nov 2017. Tour from Friday 24th Nov until Sunday 24th Dec 2017. Sorry about the short notice for the
start of this job, but our Artistic Director has had man flu and is lucky to
be alive! You will need to be free for the duration of the contract. We will
be touring to school & theatre venues, and when we are in schools (which
will be around 40% of this tour) we also run follow-on drama workshops for
the children
AUDITIONS: The audition will be on Monday 6th November 2017 via
skype and you will know if you have been offered the job on the same day.
ABOUT US: First of all, we love working with children! We specialise in
productions for children and family audiences and the team have spent the
past 20 years producing high-quality shows for children. Our shows are
beautiful, offering our young audience the perfect introduction to live
theatre. Our style is physical, highly interactive, and incorporates
beautiful puppetry, original music, and magical scenery.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR: Well, if you LOVE working with children, you’re already well on the
way! If you’re fun to be around, you’re getting even closer still. We are
looking for very special ‘all-rounders’ to join our company.
You will need to: **have a good general level of fitness (as our shows are
very physical) **have great comedy skills **sing beautifully **dance well
**be able to keep smiling in the face of adversity! We are a touring
company, so please remember that you need to be prepared for the inevitable
rigours of touring; being away from home, spending lots of time with the
same faces, early starts, get ins, get outs, lifting and carrying. Finally,
you must have a great deal of experience in working for children (3 – 7 year
olds), and your CV will reflect this.
If you do LOVE working with children,
show us! This is a brilliant opportunity to work with a fantastic company,
so if you are prepared to roll up your sleeves, are not afraid of hard work,
have a brilliant sense of humour and want to be part of an amazing
adventure, then we’d love to hear from you.
SALARY: Rehearsal weeks: £300
per week Touring weeks: £400 per week We also arrange, provide and pay for
accommodation when required throughout your contract.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO APPLY FOR THE JOB?: If you would like to be considered for this role, then
please email a covering letter, explaining why you’re the right person for
the job and clearly outlining your experience of working with children along
with your CV. We can’t wait to hear from you!
CHARACTER 1 – LILY
Lily is the main character of the story – she is 8 years old, lives with her
grandpa, is very strong-willed, determined, a bit of a tomboy and loves the
great outdoors. She is also very funny, but in a wide-eyed, naive kind of
way. She takes the children in the audience ‘under her wing’ and they join
her on her adventures. So, this means that the actor playing Lily needs to
be very comfortable interacting with and direct addressing the children and
their grown-ups.
CHARACTER 2 – GRANDAD, SLUGWORM THE HUNTER & SNOW BEAR PUPPETEER
This is a lovely role, with lots to get your teeth into. First of all,
there’s grandpa, who happens to be one of the world’s great inventors. The
only problem is that his inventions are quite rubbish. He’s eccentric to say
the least, very energetic, quirky and memorable for perhaps all the wrong
comedic reasons – but he is lovable and we want the audience to absolutely
adore him. Then, we have Slugworm the hunter. He is the baddie in the show,
but in a Disney way. He isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer; full of
bright ideas, can talk the talk like Del Boy, but when it comes to being
‘bad’, he’s feckless, clumsy and leaves the children shaking their heads at
him. But – he is trying to capture the baby Snow Bear, so for a while at
least, he poses a real threat to Lily and her little snowy friend. Then, if
you’re not busy enough, you will also be puppeteering the gorgeous
Bunraku-style tabletop Snow Bear puppet. We’re not expecting you to be an
expert puppeteer, as we will share our knowledge with you in rehearsals, but
we do expect you to believe in the magic of good puppetry.
